Lambert: Benteke going nowhere

Paul Lambert has said that Christian Benteke won’t be heading out of Villa Park in the summer transfer window, despite a lot of speculation that other Premier League teams have their eyes on the Belgian.

Benteke has been the star man for Villa in what has been a miserable campaign so far and if they are to be the drop in the top flight, you feel as though they will owe a lot to their striker.

The former Genk man has netted eleven top flight goals this term and is keeping Darren Bent out of the side, which takes some doing when you consider the record that the England international has in the Premier League.

He seems to have all the qualities you would need in a striker as the 22-year-old is quick, strong, has an eye for goal and works extremely hard. He also has ice running through his veins when steeping-up to take a penalty kick, which is a fantastic attribute to have.

With these performances though, comes a lot of interest from other clubs with more money and Tottenham Hotspur have been reported as being keen on the Villa man.

But, Lambert has said he won’t be going anywhere “As far as I’m concerned the guy’s here and he isn’t going anywhere until I say so – that’s the bottom line.

“He has been phenomenal – he’s 22 years of age, he’s got so much to learn and so much to give to the game.

“If he keeps progressing the way he’s going he’ll be a top player. What he’s done for this football club in the short time he’s been here – he’s got to sustain that over not just a year but over his career.”

After signing him for just £7 million, Lambert knows he has done some very good business in bringing Benteke to the Midlands and if he were to ever leave, it would take a lot more money to secure his services.

Anyone who likes free bets will see that the forward is the massive 1/16 favourite to be Villa’s leading scorer this season, but is out at 200/1 to claim the golden boot award in the top flight.

Lambert’s men are in a relegation battle at the moment and if Benteke continues his fine form, they should beat the drop.
