One of the most exciting talents in European football – Mario Gotze – is set to make the move from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich in the summer after the latter triggered a realse clause in his contract.
These two are of course bitter rivals in the Bundesliga and they meet in the Champions League final this season – so it is safe to say it won’t be a move that has gone down well with the Dortmund fans.
In fact, he received a hostile reception when the news broke just before the 4-1 drubbing of Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg.
If you want a Champions League bet, you will see that Gotze’s current team are being offered at 7/2 to win the tournament, which could be good value when you consider how good they have been in Europe this campaign.
Jurgen Klopp, manager of Dortmund, was clearly frustrated that one of his star men is set to leave, but the attacker expressed his desire to join Bayern and work under their future manager, Pep Guardiola.
Klopp said: “Gotze was the player Guardiola wished to sign.
“So if it’s anyone’s fault it’s mine. I cannot make myself 15cm smaller and learn Spanish. Gotze wants to work with this extraordinary coach that is Guardiola.
“I cannot preach football of quick transitions and now start playing Tiki Taka.”
You can understand why the player would want to player under a manager like Guardiola, but he is leaving a club that have an incredibly bright future and one of the best managers around right now.
Whether or not Gotze will playing in the Champions League final remains to be seen, but you never know, he could break his new club’s hearts before he has even played for them.
One thing is for sure, this final is going to be a cracker.
