It looks as though the three-year-old colt, Dundonnell, will be heading to the Glorious Goodwood Festival this year after an impressive run at Royal Ascot on June 18.
Although he was back in sixth position, the American horse was up against some top quality opposition and it would have been a bit learning curve for the horse. There is no doubt he can now improve and it seems as though Khalid Abdullah’s team are keeping their options open for Goodwood at the end of July and start of August.
A representative for Abdullah said: “We are looking at our options for Dundonnell and both the Lennox Stakes and Thoroughbred Stakes are under consideration.
“I thought he ran well at Royal Ascot. He did not quite get the run of the race but it was a very high-class race. He got the mile okay and, although he didn’t get clearest passage, ran right to the line.
“He won well over seven furlongs before that so he is versatile but we aren’t favouring one race over the other at this stage and will have a look nearer the time.”
Dundonnell might prove to be more better each way option for those placing Glorious Goodwood bets as he is sure to be up against some more top quality opponents.
He has a good record though as he has finished in the top three in six of his seven races on British soil, so that is why he could prove to be a popular bet in the each way market.
The colt is trained by Rodger Charlton and given the fact he is owned by Abdullah, you have to say his connections are up there with the best of them.
Glorious Goodwood is one of the most eagerly anticipated meeting on the horse racing calendar and it is going to be extremely interesting to see just how Dundonnell races.
Could he cause a bit of an upset now he has a bit more big race experience? We shall see.
