Graeme Swann has hailed the impact of Monty Panesar, as the spin duo led England to a priceless victory over India in Mumbai.
Panesar finished with overall figures of 11-210 in the match, whilst Swann also made a telling contribution by claiming 8-113 as the tourists levelled the series at 1-1, meaning things are now wide open for your online betting activities.
It was a far cry from the desperately disappointing performance from the English in Ahmedabad where India cruised to a 9 wicket victory and looked set to make life very difficult for the visitors in the remaining test matches.
The decision not to go with two front-line spinners definitely didn’t help matters in the Sardar Patel Stadium as England’s pace-men struggled to find any movement on a life-less surface, but Panesar’s inclusion in the line-up for Mumbai has swung the series wide open once again and the English will now head to Calcutta full of confidence.
Panesar’s ability to generate significant turn and bounce was simply too hot to handle for the Indian batsmen and Swann says that the Sussex man’s performance was key to England’s victory:
“There was a lot of pressure on the guy coming in (Panesar). People were saying he should have played in the first Test and that he would have bowled them out,” said Swann.
“For Monty to come in and take his wickets like the way he did in the UAE last year is great testament to the way he practices and keeps going.
“Monty and I hadn’t won a match playing together before so he said to me before this Test match ‘come on brother lets win one, let’s do it’ and I’m just so happy that we did.”
England will now hope to go ahead in the four match series, as they travel to Eden Gardens for the Third Test. The duo of Swann and Panesar will once again have to be at their best to cause similar problems to the hosts batting line-up, and India will undoubtedly be desperate to recapture the dominance shown in Ahmedabad.
The Indian public will demand an improvement, but England will be quietly confident that they can put themselves in the driving seat.
