Adelaide Struggle for Leaders

Port Adelaide will have to take on the Geelong Cats without any of their five-man leadership group, following the news that Dom Cassisi is the latest player to have been ruled out of the clash.

Cassisi had been struggling with a hip problem for a couple of weeks now, with the Port Adelaide captain now being forced to sit out he Geelong clash.

The news that Cassisi will miss the Geelong match has been made worse by the fact that vice-captain, Travis Boak, and deputy vice-captains, Jackson Trengove, Jay Schulz, and Hamish Hartlett are all missing with injury.

With none of the leadership group available to manager Peter Rohde, someone will need to step up to captain the side at the Simonds Stadium. The live in-play betting previews have reacted badly to Cassisi’s injury.

“We don’t know at this stage who is going to be captain of the team, this weekend,” admitted Rohde, before revealing his belief that Cassisi will be back in action after the weekend’s clash against Geelong.

“We’ll give that some discussion later in the week, but it’s the first time I can remember that we’ve had to give that duty to someone outside of the leadership group.

“It makes life tough for us but we’re just going to have to find other players who can stand up.”

There is some hope that Rohde will be able to welcome back Alipate Carlile to the first team.

The full-back has been side-lined in recent weeks. However, he is expected to reclaim his place in time for this weekend’s clash against an in-form Geelong team that sit eight places ahead of Port Adelaide in the AFL ladder.
