Tomorrow sees Norwich City and Swansea City go head to head at Carrow Road in a match many are describing as a ‘six pointer’ regardless of how early in the season it is taking place.
You can see why too. This is two newly promoted clubs doing battle for three crucial Premier League points in their respective bids for survival. Every point picked up at this stage of the season makes the latter stages slightly easier of course.
You wouldn’t know that these two are relegation candidates at the moment though. Both have looked at home in the top flight with Norwich 9th and Swansea 10th ahead of this weekend.
The pressure will be on the Canaries in this one though for one reason and one reason only – home advantage. Prior to the season, this would have been looked at as a must win and this is still the case.
Paul Lambert’s men did secure their first home win of the season against Sunderland in their last game at Carrow Road and this was a relief, but they must follow it up with three points against the Swans.
Norwich’s three defeats so far this year have come at Chelsea, at Manchester United…and at home to West Brom. The latter was without doubt the worst day in their new Premier League office and they will want to avoid a repeat this weekend.
Three more points would really kick them on too. If they can defeat Swansea, they could potentiall rise to 7th in the Premier League. For a team that has just been promoted – this is hugely significant.
Even more significant though would be the 11 points they would have on the board. This would represent an excellent return from eight Premier League games.
The same applies to Swansea of course – they would also move to 11 points with a victory – but you get the feeling they would settle for a point in this one. Norwich shouldn’t though.
One thing that is looking good for the Canaries is the fact that they have found their best 11, certainly for now. The system, the players they have in and the style of play all seem to fit for now and they have good momentum ahead of this important fixture.
Both teams have talented players of course and it should be an entertaining contest, but the initiative has to be with the home side.
So, if you manage to tear away from watching the best pokerstars united kingdom has to offer in action on Saturday evening – there are plenty of events taking place this weekend – Match Of The Day is almost certainly going to be worth a watch.
