Flyers Goalie Decision

The Philadelphia Flyers face the Montreal Canadiens on Friday and coach Peter Laviolette knows he will have to make what may turn out to be a season defining decision when he decides which of his two goalies he will go for. It will certainly be interesting for online bets.

The coach subbed star goalie Ilya Bryzgalov in the first period of the Flyers’ 4-3 overtime win against the New York Islanders after he allowed three goals from nine shots. His replacement Sergei Bobrovsky went on to be the star of the show as he made 23 saves, enabling his side to go on and pinch the win and consolidate their position in second in the Atlantic division.

Coach Laviolette says that Bryzgalov may not have been at fault for the goals but says he felt the team just needed freshening up after such a poor start to the game.

The first two goals were tough,” Laviolette told reporters after the game. “There was a turnover point-blank in front, no defenders. The second one off the rush on the power play was tic-tac-toe. He probably wanted to have another look at the third one, but we’ve got to do a better job of backchecking too and getting back in the play. We just wanted to change it up.”

This victory means Bobrovsky is now 6-0-0 with a 1.83 goals against average against the Islanders in his career and it now looks as if he could be on the verge of getting his big break as it lappears as if Laviolette has finally lost faith in Bryzgalov after a string of poor performances. He has been disappointing for live in-play betting.

However, Bryzgalov is one of the team’s big stars and having proved himself to be a truly world class goalie in the past, the coach may be best served to let him rider out this rough patch.
