I have heard it so many times before – if I could only find the courage to quit my job, I can earn my living as a full time gambler. Is there any truth to this statement? Or perhaps it is just the false hopes of a person with a gambling problem?
I will not call myself an expert – I am far from one – but looking at how some people live their lives, then yes, I suppose the answer would be that it is possible to make living off of gambling. Take a look at the high profile poker players. They have long ago stopped working on a 9 to 5 job. They have instead found their source of income in playing poker.
It is not that simple, however, and you are better off realizing that. Gambling as a means of living is not as simple as going to work at 9 and leaving at 5. For one, it is much like running your own business. You have to put in capital and do your best to make that grow. More so, there will be times when you will face a losing streak and you will have to know how to manage such times.
And just like with running a business, you have to put in more time and effort than you would have to if you were working for an employer. You are responsible for your actions and you need to hone your skills so that you will emerge on top in the long run. Yes, you can make a living off of gambling but you have to be ready to put in a lot of effort and heart.
